Tottenham defender Danny Rose has slammed UEFA’s attempts to deal with racism in football and says he is counting down the days until his retirement.

Rose was subjected to racial abuse from Montenegro fans during England’s recent Euro 2020 qualifier in Podgorica. UEFA moved swiftly to charge Montenegro’s federation for the fans’ racist behaviour but they are yet to settle on a punishment.

The minimum punishment is a partial stadium closure, while any further events would incur a more serious punishment which could include a fine and playing behind closed doors.

Rose, though, does not expect the punishment to be severe enough and the 28-year-old says he’s already looking forward to quitting football.

‘How I programme myself is that I think I’ve got five or six more years left in football, and I just can’t wait to see the back of it’ said Rose.

‘Seeing how things are done in the game at the minute, you just have to get on with it.

‘There is so much politics in football. I can’t wait to see the back of it.’
